Shooting schedule

This is our group work, we have planned the schedule together.

I have written down all the schedules in the morning.

We went through all the details such as make up, changing etc. therefore we can plan out the best schedule. The reason we made a shooting schedule is that we can follow the schedule during shooting so we are more time managed and more organized.

Shot list

This is our group work, we planned out our shot list.

I have written down all the shots for the doctor (Fred) and shots where they both appear in (1-25).

We decided to film the doctor scenes first, because he has less scenes. When he finishes he can leave first. Then we will be filming the scenes include both of the characters. We will film the clone character alone later on, because he has more scenes. In the end we will film all the close up of props for the montage scene.

Editing workshop 1

Editing workshop 1

We are using Adobe Premiere Pro as our editing software.
When we edit the video, every shots we have is footage. When we import footages into the software, it becomes rushes. Rushes are all the videos that have not been edited before. Normally, we should create a folder named 'bin', we should move all the rushes we want into the bin, so we can edit from the bin folder as it includes all the good rushes.

On the screen, there should have four sections. On the top there are two sections which playing the videos, on the left side, it should play the rushes I have selected. On the top right, it plays the video that I have been edited. On the bottom, there are rushes folders and bin folders where all the footages are. On the right side is where we edit the video and the timeline. Before we do anything such as edit or copy, we need to make sure that we have selected the right section. Where we selected should have a blue square around it, which means that we are working with that section.

The timeline is for us to see the timing and length of the video. To edit the video, we just need to drag the rushes inside the timeline. When we drag in the rushes we need to be careful of that the audio and video doesn't overlap other rushes. If we overlap any rushes, it will automatically deleted the overlapped parts. To trim and shorten the video, we just need to select the clip and there will appear a red arrow. We can cut shorten the video by moving the arrow.

If we made any mistake while we edit the video, we can press 'Command+z' which is the short cut for undo. The cutting tool is on the left side of the bottom right section which is where the timeline is. The cutting tool will cut the clip into sections. We just need to click where we want to cut it, then the clip became two or more clips. We can look at the timeline in order to know where we should cut the clip. There is a line following the time when the clip is playing so we can clearly see where we should cut or where to shorten the clip.

During the workshop, me and my team member has edit the clips we filmed during camera workshop. Here is the clips:

Costume (update)

We have asked our casts to bring their clothes.

Fred will be bringing all his black hoodie, dark jeans and black trainers.

(This is when he put on the costumes)
I have also contacted Freddie, but he said that he doesn't have black trainers so we would ask him to put on Fred's trainers during the shooting.

Freddie will also bring in his hoodie and dark jeans, just in case if anything happened that we can't use Fred's clothes.

Confirm Set

Me and my team members have been to the studio where we will be filming the sequence.

On that day, we will set up walls to help us create the small area. and we will be putting tables and props around in order to form the best look of the setting.

Camera workshop 2

Camera workshop 2

When we on set during filming time, time is very important for us and especially during real film/ TV filming. The order of shots effects the time we are on set. For example we have two cast in this production and we only need Fred for a few scenes, so we would film him first instead of keeping him till the end, therefore we can finish his part and let him go. Then, we would film Freddie as he has more scenes alone. In the end we would film close up of props. If this is real film production set then we would have save more money as both of the cast finishes first.
For romantic film, they would film love scenes first, in case in the future anything happened between the actors. For action films, they would film the action sequences first, as the scene cost more money and many action scenes contain CGI, so as soon as they finished filming they can ask the editor to start edit the action scenes first. Which they have more time to edit those scenes.
Shot list is very important when we on set, it helps us to organize all the scenes we need to shoot so we don't forget any scenes.
When we shoot a scene we normally start with the wide angle, also call as master shot. The reason we always start with wide shot is because that even though anything happened to the actor or props, we still have a wide shot which contains everything. If we start with mid shot or close up, then when we edit, we might not have enough scenes to edit or the mid shot doesn't contain full messages.

Because we need many different shot and angles so we need to make sure that props and actors are on the same positions every time. This is to make the continuity of the video. For example, in the first shot, the actor used right hand picked up an apple, so the rest of the shots he needs to use the same hand. This is for the impact of the audiences, if there is a mistake effects the continuity of the sequence then audiences would feel less into the film.
During the time on set, for more organize it is better to have call out. 'Stand by' is call out by the director, so the actor is ready to shoot, at the right position. Following with the crew say 'standing by', which suggest to the camera man that it is good to roll the camera.
'Roll camera' should call by the director, this is telling the camera man to start record. Following with 'camera rolling' is when the camera man press the record button and the shot has start timing. At this stage the actor shouldn't start their performance, they should wait for the 'Action'. Having few seconds before action is for more footage time for editor. Same as after finish the scene, before the director call out 'cut' the camera should keep rolling.
'Action' call out is when the actors should start their performance, 'cut' is when the shot is over, when every one stop. The actors should stop and the camera should stop filming.

For helping the actors or staff to find the right position of camera, on set we should use stand mark. Having this mark can help the actor to stand on the right position and also for helping the camera to find the right angle, as we normally take many shots for each scene. Stand mark normally tape on the floor or find an object and put it on the floor.

During filming, the screen where we can see the footage should be facing the crew and not look back. This is because it is a waste of time and also not showing to the actors is because after they have watch the footage they might change their position for their own benefits, to make sure they look pretty.

The composition of camera is very important, for the quality of the film and audiences' understanding. 180 degree rules is the most important rule, because during a dialogue, having the camera on one side help the audience to understanding the position of the actors and who are they speaking to.

Another rule is rule of third, which help with the look of the shot and balance of the shot. Also, help the audience to find the center of interest.

camera workshop 1

 Workshop 1

During this production we will be using BlackMagic 4k Mini URSA to film our sequence. When we hand over the camera, we will be saying 'yours' and 'mine' while we hand in the camera. For example, when I am giving the camera to my team members, I need to say 'yours' to make sure who am I hand in to and when my team member says 'mine', this suggests that she is taking over the camera.

While we filming the sequence, we need to make sure that we are on the right level or angle in order to present a good image. Tripod is for changing the height of the camera. At the bottom of the stand there are three point, we can change the height by losing it and tie up. In the middle of the stand there are three same point we can use.

There is a hand hold stick help us to move the camera.
On the right side of the stand there is a place where we can turn the hand hold stick on.

After setting up the tripod stand, we need to set the camera onto the tripod. By setting up the camera, we need to be careful that where we put the camera is clear. At the bottom of the camera, the shape should fit in the top of the stand. Press the button on the left, so the camera can slide in. When the camera fits in, then on the right side of the stand there is a button for us to turn, therefore to tie up the camera.
After we set up we should give the camera a shake, to double check that it is still.
We should be very careful while we set up the camera, it had fit in both side.
After setting up the camera, we need to check the spirit level.

Under the camera, on the tripod stand there is a yellow circle, that is where we can check the spirit level. We change the spirit level by loosing the head of the stand so make sure that the small circle is inside the black circle, therefore that the camera and the tripod stand is leveled. The position of the camera is right.

Making sure everything is tied and the spirit level is right, we then need to turn on the camera and before we start shooting, we should check if the camera is focus.

Then we should put the battery on. Where we put the camera is at the back. At the back of the battery there is a V shape which slide in fit on the camera

On the camera there are two roll, the front one is for zoom in and out. The second one is for focus. Zoom in the camera to the maximum and focus the details, therefore when we zoom out everything is sharply focused.

If we are shooting indoor we need to make sure the camera is set as indoor as well. The colours would be effected if the set is not match, for example the camera is set as indoor shooting, when the camera shoot outdoor the colour would be weird and blue.

On the camera, there is a blue button where we can change the exposure. This is for balance the exposure, in order to make sure the lighting in the scene is well presented.
Moving the button up is making the image darker and lower is for brighter image.

Costume & Props(update)

After few discussion we decided to ask our cast bring in a black hoodie because we will only be pouring blood on the apron. Freddie will bring in his black hoodie and a dark jean so they can switch between two cast.

I have bought the apron from Amazon.

We have thought about that their hoodie won't get dirty so we asked Freddie and Fred both bring black hoodies, dark/black jeans and wear black trainers on that day.
